Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute with bread flour for a chewier texture.
  • 1 packet active dry yeast Equivalent to 2 and 1/4 teaspoons.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Ensure it’s vegan-friendly if necessary.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 cups warm water Temperature should be warm, not hot.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Can substitute with melted butter for richer flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the olive oil, salt, and flour, one cup at a time. Mix until the dough forms a sticky mass.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Punch down the dough to release air, then shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  6. Cover the loaf again and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  3. Allow the bread to cool before slicing to prevent it from becoming gummy.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to 3-5 days in the refrigerator or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat slices in the toaster or oven.
