  • 3/4 cup 3/4 cup of granulated sugar You can replace half of the sugar with a sugar substitute for a healthier option.
  • 1 tablespoon 1 tablespoon of lemon juice Enhances the flavor of the apples.
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
  • 1/4 teaspoon 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon 1 tablespoon of butter Use a plant-based alternative for a dairy-free version.
Pie Crusts
  • 1 package 1 package of pie crusts (or homemade pie crust) If using store-bought, let them sit at room temperature for easier handling.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Combine them in a large bowl with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and salt. Mix everything well.
  3. Roll out one of the pie crusts and place it into a 9-inch pie pan.
Assembly
  1. Spoon the apple mixture onto the crust and dot with butter.
  2. Roll out the second pie crust and drape it over the filling. Seal the edges tightly and cut slits in the top crust for steam to escape.
Baking
  1. Bake the pie at 425°F for the first 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes.
  2. Cool the pie before serving for easier slicing.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce. Store leftover pie in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
